Kase Star Burst effect filter review

Photographer: Thomas van der Laan

In this review I'm going to talk about the Kase Star Burst effect filter. It is a circular magnetic filter.

In addition to the square and circular magnetic filters, Kase now also has effect filters in their range, such as Kase Bleu Streak effect filter, Kase Mirror effect filter, Kase Dream / Star effect filter and the Kase Star Burst effect filter, the latter filter I may to test.

Effect filters are filters that you don't immediately remember. But it is worthwhile to create certain effects that you can never add to your photo afterwards.

The Kase Star Burst effect filter comes in a hard plastic box with a screw ring and a magnetic circular filter inside.

If you look closely at the filter, you will see a kind of transparent mesh in the glass. This transparent mesh deforms the points of light into a star shape and also gives the photo a dreamy haze.

Star formation of points of light in night photography you need a small aperture, usually around f11. With the Kase Star Burst effect filter it is now possible to create a star formation with a large aperture f 2. Not only with points of light for evening and night photography, but also with glare from water droplets on flowers, glare from the sun on water surfaces or in the forest through the trees and shrubs. You see that big points of light and small points of light change into a star shape.

To create this star effect, I used different types of Fuji lenses to see what the effect is. See below for the examples. Enjoy watching!!

In my own garden, without filter, Fujifilm X-T 4 and 50-140 mm f / 2.8, aperture at f 5.6

Dripping ice, without filter. Fujifilm X-T4 and 16-55 mm f / 2.8, aperture at f 4

Spicy ice cream, with filter Fujifilm X-T4 and 16-55mm f / 2.8, aperture at f 4

Old mantelpiece, without filter, Fujifilm X-T4 and 16mm f / 1.4, aperture at f 2

My conclusion about the Kase Star Burst effect filter.

The Kase Star Burst effect filter gives a beautiful star-shaped and slightly dreamy (orton effect) to your photo, you cannot create this effect with the help of a photo editor. And only works when using prime, zoom or telephoto lenses. This filter does not work with macro lenses, then you get bokeh with mesh motif and strange shapes. You can also use this circular magnetic Kase Star Burst effect filter for night photography in combination with the circular magnetic Nightfilter 77mm and 82mm.

The Kase Star Burst effect filter is certainly a nice addition to your filter bag and available in the following sizes 77 or 82 mm.

This Kase Star Burst effect filter is available at www.kasefilters.nl and here you will also find more information about the other effect filters, such as the Kase Bleu Streak effect filter, Kase Mirror effect filter, Kase Dream / Star effect filter.
