An Italy trip with Kase Magnetic Circular filter

Filters is playing a very important role for landscape photographer. When shooting in different scenes and different light conditions, filters will bring you many unexpected surprises.

In the trip to Italy, we will test our Kase Wolverine Magnetic Circular Filter for you!

You can see the Kase magnetic set is very small. A small wallet with a hook can contain an ND1000, a CPL, and a GND 0.9. Also we bring 2 different adapter rings for different lenses. So, we don't need to bring a holder and some square filters and adapter rings!

It can be easily hung on a camera bag or belt buckle through a hook. During the shooting , it also freed my hands, allowing me more time and energy to focus on shooting.

They are very easy and fast to installed by magnet.

Because of its great convenience, two female companion borrowed the kit and they even want to buy that kit we brought!

We came to Lake Antorno in the Dolomites mountains of northern Italy. Although the lake is not large. It is one of the most important place for photographers. Because the sky was very bright in the morning on the day of shooting, and the light ratio at sunrise is very large, we have only two choices, or take several photos, and then combine them into a photo that foreground , medium, and distant scenes are normally exposed, or you can use the GND0.9 filter to take one photo. Of course I will use filter.

Let's see the pictures!

▲ No filter used, sky is overexposed                                                               ▲ Use Kase magnetic GND 0.9 Original picture without any treatment

It can be seen from the comparison that without the GND filter, under the condition that the foreground exposure is normal, the mountain tip and the sky have been overexposed. After using  Kase GND 0.9, the exposure of the foreground, distant view and sky is normal. The Kase magnetic GND 0.9 balance the light effectively. Of course, the role of the GND can not only gradually weaken the light selectively, but also improve the layers and detail of the picture.

The following set of comparison pictures was taken in the Fornas Valley, a well-known photography spot in the Dolomites Mountains of Italy. The former does not use the GND filter. Under normal circumstances, the mountain and sky are overexposed.

(If you use the lower stop GND filter , the light transition effect will be more natural)

Is there any other special thing about the Kase GND filter?

Yes! As the Kase magnetic GND filter installed on the lens by magnet, it can be rotated and adjusted in 360 degrees as you need (It’s not going to fall off). During the rotation, the dimming area will be changed. So, when shooting some scenes and angles of side light, we can turn the horizontal angle of the GND to create or highlight the visual effect of the light source

Magnetic CPL, make a clearer world

The biggest function of polarizers are eliminating reflections , make the sky more blue, richer the objects in the light and the clearer water surface by turning CPL filter.

Without CPL                                                                                                Use Kase Magnetic CPL

Magnetic ND1000, it makes the world "quiet" and quiet

ISO-100, f/10, Exposure 100s

Why this picture looks peaceful? It feels like time has stopped. This is a long exposure picture of 100 seconds .

The following three sets of comparison pictures were taken on Lake Curonvenos, Hallstatt, and San Marco Square in Venice.

It was a cloudy afternoon when we arrived at the lake. The sky was thick in clouds and the water in the lake was rushing. The pictures without filter was messy, just like the photos taken on a mobile phone. So I used the Kase ND1000. After a long exposure of 115 seconds, I finally got this work. In comparison, the clouds in the latter picture are smoother , and the water surface is foggy like a mirror. The whole picture is more clean and dramatic.

Without ND filter                                                                                          Use Kase Magnetic ND1000

In addition to extend the exposure to fog the water surface, drawing clouds, the ND filter can also create a dramatic effects. The following set of comparison pictures were taken at Venice's San Marco Square. The only difference between this set of comparison is the use of a Kase magnetic ND1000 filter. The ship is the soul of an underground city, so you can see ships in various shapes everywhere. The ships were flowing with the water, so they blurred during the long exposure shooting process. The whole picture is more interesting than the former.

So, you may have learned some tips of the use of Kase magnetic filters. We are going to say, this is your MUST-HAVE filter set in your bag!
