Bio

Nature plays a big role in my life, but that goes without saying when you live in a village on the edge of a national park. As a small boy, I spent a lot of my time in my favorite nature reserve the Biesbosch (my own backyard, so to speak). Autumn, winter and spring are my favourite seasons and during these periods I often go out to this wonderful natural area. During my younger years, I was mainly busy with drawing and painting birds of prey. Since then I have shifted my focus to photography but my love of nature has remained unchanged. For decades I have been passionately photographing nature. It’s especially the images of untouched nature that give me great satisfaction and tranquillity. My photographic work is regularly published in several leading nature and photography magazines. I also take care to regularly exhibit my work and give lectures. For a decade I organize workshops and photo trips in various natural areas in Europe. The main themes include landscape photography, filter use and photographic techniques, nature photography trips to Iceland. To get my shots, I use modern lenses and midformat system cameras of Fujifilm that allow me to capture landscapes in a special way with a huge amount of detail and colour. This substantially affects the quality of the image with regard to color, detail and sharpness. For almost all of my shots, I use various high-quality filter systems of Kase filters (I use the magnetic circular filters, the 100MM K9 System and the K150P which is my favourite on the extreme wide angle lenses). The use of those filters systems is reflected in my photography, portrait photos for more perspective and the use of objects or structures in the foreground giving the landscape extra depth is a trademark. In my photography, I show landscapes that do not exist in reality, or are different in reality, through the use of filters or special techniques such as slow shutter speeds and panorama techniques that result in a wide and dynamic whole. It is important to experience the beauty, and to convey my experience, vision and emotions related to the nature in the image. In these photographs, 99% of time, there is no place for disturbing "elements" including humans. I try to immortalize my reality in an artistic way and in the most optimal quality to convey my fondness for pristine images from the Netherlands, Europe and the northern sub Polar Regions....

My motto : Nature is infinite but not limitless. Let us not seek the border but respect it ….

Gallery

Used filters : CPL + M-GND0,9 + S-GND0,6 (Upsidedown)

Settings : f/16,1/4s,ISO-400

Description : A day in the north of the Netherlands, A well-known photo location in the “Wadden”. A magical moment at sunrise where all elements came together, the wonderful sunset, the clouds, the direction of the wind and low tide. You can plan a lot, but if all come together a moment becomes magical

Used filters : CPL + S-GND0,6 + M-GND0.6

Settings : f/32,5s,ISO-200

Description : An iconic photo location in the Italian dolomites at a moment rain was making place for sunny spells. The two graduals made it possible to keep the lights in the sky under control without the mountains and trees were getting to dark. Due to the new K150P system and the wonderful andextreme high quality CPL I could create a nice mirror effect in the foreground and intensify the color saturation.

Used filters : CPL + Neutral night filter

Settings : f/11,15s,ISO-1000

Description : From the top of an hotel at an event organized by Fujifilm “Rotterdam @ night” what better moment you can image to test the very special neutral night filter from Kase filters. The light pollution under control and natural colours provide a wonderful night scape of the most iconic bridge of the city of Rotterdam.

Used filters : R-GND0.9

Settings : f/11,3s,ISO-400

Description : Moments and locations can become magical if the light and situation is in your favour, this image I created just near my city when the purple of the heather was at its peak. The reverse gradual was the perfect filter at this time to provide me the tranquillity I was looking for.

Used filters : CPL + H-GND0,6 + R-GND0.6

Settings : f/22,25s,ISO-5000

Description : South west Netherland at the “Grevelingen”,  a day where rain and sun had a continues battle, some moments the light was so special which created very nice complementary colours in the shot. In this case the colour quality of the Kase filters and film emulation of the Fujifilm GFX100 help. It results in a spectacular detailed and coloured shot.

Used filters : CPL + H-GND0,75

Settings : f/14,3s,ISO-200

Description : Harunfossar at the white river in the mid-west of Iceland, special permission from the islandic environment agency allowed us to photograph from this point. It reviles this spectacular waterfall from another viewpoint. Because of the kasefilters CPL the wonderful structures becomes part of the image creating this special foreground.
